Courtney's Take on Jason's Funny Adventures 2

One day, Elder Warhurst and his companion were walking down the street. They were both dressed in their dark suits, wearing sunglasses because it was a beautiful sunshiney day in New York. A family sitting out on their balcony observed the Elders walking down the street. Not being familiar with missionaries, they called out to the missionaries. They said, "Hey! Hey you guys! Are you the Men in Black?" The missionaries smiled and said, "No." The family then said, "Are you Police Officers?" The missionaries then said, "No. We're missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This was one of the most interesting and funny experiences to begin teaching a family that we have heard of.

Courtney's take on Jason's Funny Adventures

Jason writes home with a lot of funny stories for us. Here's some of the stories he has told us;
They do what is called a street sweep and they (the missionaries) give out lemonade and information on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. One particular day, they were doing a street sweep and a man came up to Elder Warhurst when they were getting ready to leave. He had a black bag with him and he said, "Do you believe in God?" Elder Warhurst, of course, said, "Yes." The man then said, "I have a special certificate from God in my bag. I haven't shown it to anyone but I will show it to you." Then he opened his bag and showed Elder Warhurst his special certificate. Guess what it was? It was a Pokemon card! Hahaha! We thought that was really funny :)
Further funny adventures in the next post!

Elder Warhurst Adventures in New York & New Jersey

Elder Jason Warhurst was called to serve in the New York New York South Mission as a Spanish speaking Missionary. He first had to learn Spanish which he was very excited to do. Then he got to fly to New York. His first area to serve was in Far Rock Away. It is near the end of New York and right on the Coast. He loved the people and the area. The Missionaries in the area got together to go play Volley Ball on the Beach on P-days. That was one of his favorite fun things to do. The service there started with Car Washes and Helping Local Members. Then along came Hurrican Irene. All the missionaries were evacutaed to the Mission Office in Elmhurst. Jason only got to go back to Far Rock Away for a short time. So with the damage caused by Huricane Irene, it left alot of work to be done. Elder Jason Warhurst along with many other volunteers and fellow Missionaries went to work to help with clean up efforts. Jason wrote home about getting to go help in New Jersey recently. They tore up floor boards of homes that were flooded. The water under the floors was very disgusting and filled with leeches and other bugs. he said the smell was terrible. He loved helping the people get their homes fixed. They also had to tear out walls and break out sheet rock up to 4 feeet high since the water came into some of the home that high. He got sent to Freeport to live next. The wonderful members of Far Rock got him a cake for his Birthday and made it very special for him. We will forever be grateful to those people who have been so kind to our son.
